How it works

From recording to notation in three steps

You do not need to read a stave or know what key you are in.

Record or import

Tap the mic and sing, or hold the phone up in the rehearsal. If you already have the audio, import a file from your phone.

We work out the music

Pitch, rhythm, tempo, time signature and key, all worked out on our own servers. Each result comes back with a confidence score so you know what to double-check.

Read it and share it

Get Tonic Solfa and staff notation side by side. Play it back, save it, or send it to the team.

What you get

What a choir master actually needs

Built with worship teams, music teachers and self-taught musicians in mind. These are the people who hear a part once and have to teach it to twenty others by Sunday.

True movable-do

Doh follows the key, minors are la-based, and chromatics get their proper syllables: de, ra, fe, se, ta.

d r m f s l t d′ · octave marks included

Staff notation too

The same performance rendered on a stave and exportable as MusicXML, so it opens in MuseScore, Sibelius or Finale without retyping a note.

MusicXML · MIDI

Change key in one tap

Too high for the sopranos? Pick a new key and the solfa re-labels. It does not re-record or re-analyse anything, so it is instant.

Instant · Lossless

A confidence score on every result

A clean solo voice in a quiet room scores high. A full band in a live room scores lower, and the app tells you which one you have got.

High · Fair · Low

Your own library

Everything you save syncs across your devices, titled and searchable, with the key and tempo on the card. Rename, re-key or delete any time.

Synced across devices

Your audio is deleted

Your recording is transcribed and then deleted. That usually happens within seconds. The notation stays in your library; the audio file is gone.

Deleted on completion
African Mode

Built for the music nobody else transcribes

Every transcription tool on the market was trained on Western classical and pop. Point one at a Yoruba chorus, a highlife guitar line or an Afrobeat log-drum and it falls apart.

African Mode is tuned for exactly that material: dense percussion, call-and-response, and vocal-led choruses. It is aimed at the songs a congregation already knows and nobody ever wrote down.

  • Nigerian and pan-African church choruses, in the keys they are actually sung in
  • Afrobeat and hip-hop, with the melody lifted clear of the drums
  • Viral sounds and local instruments, from talking drum to shekere
  • Vetted transcriptions published free under African Tunes & Choruses

Sample output

Doh is D  ·  4/4  ·  100 BPM

Movable-do, so the same chorus reads identically whatever key you move it to. That is why choirs learn from solfa rather than from a stave.

Why bother

By ear, or with the app

Working it out by ear

  • An evening at the keyboard hunting for the right notes
  • One person in the team who can write, and everyone waiting on them
  • Transposing by hand, and re-copying every part when it is still too high
  • Choruses nobody ever wrote down

With NoteFusion

  • Record it once. Notation before the rehearsal ends.
  • Anyone in the team can capture a part, because the phone does the reading
  • New key in one tap, solfa re-labelled, nothing re-recorded
  • Saved to the library and shareable with the team

Frequently asked

Questions we get asked

Do I need to read music to use it?

No. That is what Tonic Solfa is for. If you can sing doh re mi, you can read what NoteFusion gives you. The staff notation is there for when you need to hand it to someone who does read.

How accurate is it, really?

A clean solo voice or a single instrument in a quiet room transcribes very well. A full band in a live room is harder, and dense polyphony is harder still. Every result carries a confidence score, so check it before you teach from it.

What happens to my recordings?

The audio is transcribed and then deleted from our servers: usually within seconds, always as soon as the job finishes. No person listens to it, it is not sold, and it is not used to train anything. See the privacy policy.

What exactly is African Mode?

A transcription mode tuned for material the standard models handle badly. It only changes the analysis. The solfa rules are the same in every mode, with doh following the key and minors la-based.

Can I change the key after transcribing?

Yes, and it is instant. Changing key re-labels the solfa; it never re-analyses the audio.

Is my transcription mine?

Yes. What you record and what you save belongs to you. If you choose to submit a chorus to the public African Tunes & Choruses library, it is reviewed for accuracy first, and you are credited. Nothing is published without you asking for it.

Is there an iPhone version?

Android first. The app is built cross-platform, so iOS follows. Join the list at hello@notefusion.studio and we will tell you when it lands.
